Weekend Getaway- Shimoga

A small town in central Karnataka, Shimoga is blessed with cascading waterfalls, vegetated hills and mountain tops, dense green forests and wildlife. 

Highlights:

Jeep ride and trekking through lush trails of Kudajadri hills. Yes it is a very uncomfortable off road jeep ride followed by trek to the hill top in the hot sun (depending on the time of the year). But totally worth it for the cool breeze and view from the top.

Sakrebailu elephant camp: watching the playful baby elephants enjoying their bath is sheer joy. (Camp is on the way to Shimoga from Bangalore)

Kavaledurga Fort: A strenuous yet exhilarating hike to unravel this hidden beauty. 

Other attractions are Tiger and Lion Safari, Kaveladurga, Kundadri Hill top and Jog water falls.

Kundadri hill top temple and of course the famous Jog waterfalls.

This raw beauty is a highly recommended long weekend trip from Bengaluru. 

Tip: Most of the stay options in Shimoga are very modest and less fancy.
